Oh, what a relief
Congratulations, my USian friends. I hope the next four years bring some healing. You guys have fought the good fight. Don't stop? But maybe catch your breath a minute. You're all awesome and I'm glad to know you.
I am plodding along, having worked all the way through the pandemic so far. Australia is doing okay. I'm scared for my non-Aussie friends. These are very strange times. Right now, I'm very grateful that masks are not needed here at the moment except in certain circumstances (supermarkets, hospitals, public transport.)
Obligatory cat photos under the cut.
Sooky-Sue
Sooks is so sweet! She doesn't like to be picked up, but she loves cuddles as long as you come to her. And belly rubs! She hurls herself to the ground right in front of your feet and bares her belly for a rub. I'm gonna break a hip over this cat one day. She likes to sit on rectangles. She plays fetch. She curls her long black tail around her front leg like a bangle. I think she can teleport.
Also, she is goblin.

Just maximum goblin.
Amity
Amma-jamma is demanding and intrepid, deeply food-oriented (aren't we all though?) and loves the outdoors. Once she learned that we will take her outside for a walk, she demands walks whenever we go near the door or her harness or even say the word. I'm pretty sure she can spell W-A-L-K by now. She jumps into your arms for a hug, she gets up on your shoulders for a ride, and she sleeps on my chest at night. (I have had such smothery dreams.) I love her to pieces.

lilacsigil captioned this last photo with "It's all Michaelangelo and an uncaring God in here."
Old Man Chewie
Chewbacca has not adapted well to the new cats, and I think our house will remain divided in the long term. It's not a great hassle now that
lilacsigil has put a snib on the sliding door. (Amity is an escape artist. I've caught her hanging off the snib like spider-man.) The vet has him on gabapentin to help him be more inclined to integrate with the girls. And while he doesn't get on with them, he is incredibly interested in them, and watches them through the crack in the sliding door. We call it Cat TV. I think having other cats in the house is good for him, he isn't pining/fretting as much as he was in the months after we lost Baggins.
He's doing okay, for a cranky old man. He had his annual old man check-up at the vet and has good kidney and thyroid function. I think he's getting extremely short sighted. When we try a gentle meetup with them both on leashes, he doesn't really see her until she's quite close. And he's getting quite grey on his face and paws. He loves his walks, and he loves his
lilacsigil who is the best human, and I think he's having a good life.

A Brief and Incomplete Media Summary
She-Ra
I did not expect to be thwacked upside the head by a Catradora ship, but Catra got her cute little pixie haircut and escaped Horde-Prime, I was a goner. I just can't believe how much I was sold on this relationship, when up until that point it had been everything I hate about leaning on siblings to survive dysfunctional parents. I love that the show took me all the way through that and out the other side in a believable way.
Also, how great was the representation in that show? So. Much. Queeritude.
Revolution of the Daleks
I try to enjoy Doctor Who without reading any reaction posts, because it stresses me out. I enjoyed this? Mostly? I really love Jodie as the Doctor, I love her dynamic with her fam, I love the way she could make friends with a wall. Or a camera. Graham and Ryan, but I do think their stories are done now, and I was living in dread that they'd make Graham's cancer return in some kind of time-travel horror story. Now I don't have to worry about that.
I loved Yaz and Jack's conversation about what it's like to be in love with the Doctor (that's how I choose to see it!) And the image of the Daleks pouring into the TARDIS was surprisingly spine-chilling. Poor Jo!Doctor's TARDIS! I hope it managed to survive being put into the heart of a sun.
The Derry Girls GBBO episode
It was a delight! I love the way they all seemed to drift in and out of character - it makes me think that there's a lot of themselves in their characters. And omfg, Siobhán McSweeney is gorgeous when she's not dressed as a nun. Wow. Which leads me to...
The Great Pottery Throwdown 2021
I've only seen one ep so far, but I love it so far. Siobhán McSweeney is a host. And Richard the kiln master has stepped up to be a judge. I always liked him. And the new kiln master is adorable.
Oof. January. It's January. It's 2021. I feel like I've been sleeping under a hedge for a year.
