Grant arrived with a six-pack and it seemed cruel to leave him in the rain. Fitz was terrified of accidental cruelty since the Framework. They drank until the light faded and it was safe to talk.

"I hate who I was here," said Grant.

Fitz laughed, hollow. "I hate who I am everywhere."

"Don't." Grant took his hand. "You're stronger than all of them."

Fitz stared at him. "Why would you say that?"

"If you're evil, how is it you've only done good on this side?"

Fitz didn't answer, but when Grant leaned in to kiss him, he didn't protest.

Steve could run rings around Sam, but surprisingly, Sam almost matched him on pull-ups. When they were done, Sam swung back and forth on the bar, t-shirt rucked up, aware he was being ogled. "You wanna pull a barrel roll without a plane, you need core strength. Me and the synchronised swimmers."

"Synchronised…?" Steve opened his notebook.

Sam let go and pulled out his phone. "Here."

Steve saw a pool filled with swimmers in sequinned suits. "Oh, like Busby Berkley movies."

"Busby what?"

Steve grinned. "I guess we’re going to the cinema tonight."

"It's a date." Sam was grinning too.

Title: Air Show
Fandom: MCU
Rating: Teen
Words: 100
Characters/Pairings: Steve/Bucky/Sam/Natasha
Warnings/Content:
Notes: For [community profile] multifandomdrabble 2017.

Summary: After they've found Bucky, they need some time to hide out and recover. (Set after Winter Soldier, on the road trip that should have been.)

Also at the Archive

They hid out in Omaha. Sam wanted to test Stark's new wings, so they found an abandoned airfield. He slung the case at Bucky.

"You broke the first set, you get to carry the next," he said, and strode off. Bucky gave an eloquent shrug and followed. Steve and Natasha brought up the rear.

Steve lay flat to watch, his head in Natasha's lap. Standing, Bucky squinted into the sun. Sam wheeled in the sky, fast and glorious.

"Yakutsk," said Bucky, and Natasha nodded. Steve raised his eyebrows.

"A mission," said Natasha. "But after, we saw falcons, flying for joy."

So is there like a support group for people who are now suddenly writing Grant Ward or what. XD Because if so, I need to attend a meeting.

Heh, yeah, one of the other Ward/Fitz ones was mine (ETA: er, which you commented on. /is observant). I DON'T EVEN KNOW. :D The whole idea of Ward adjusting to our world and having to deal with what other!Ward did, while not actually being him, is something I'm all over, apparently.

That was actually the whole premise of my favorite storyline in Flash; the alternate universe version of a previous season's big bad got stuck in the main characters' universe and had to deal with everyone hating him for things that were entirely out of his control. Made more complicated by the fact that he'd made a really bad, like city-ruining mad scientist mistake on his world, which was why he was in their world to begin with, so he kinda had his own redemption arc going on, but not actually for the things that the serial-killer version of him had done. It was really a lot of fun.

Honestly, I hated S1 for that exact reason. I started watching it for backstory on the Legends of Tomorrow characters, got completely fed up and skipped to season two because I'd seen a later episode with the character I just mentioned and liked him. And then his first few episodes sucked me in completely. I suggest trying that approach, if you want to give it another go. It worked for me!

You'll want to start with 2x04 (which ... has its problems, but he shows up at the end). Or you could just watch like the last minute of 2x04 and go straight to 2x05, which is his first full episode.

There's also some important backstory in 1x15-1x16 that helps with understanding the character interactions in season two, but be aware that those episodes still contain the "keeping things from Iris" problem. However, you might want to watch them first, because a lot of things make more sense if you do.

FWIW, the Iris thing completely resolves itself by the end of S1. Later seasons continue to be frustrating for their own reasons, but not that particular one. XD I actually loved season two an awful lot.

Okay, apparently Fitz/Grant is my secret weakness and that is lovely.

Steve saw a pool filled with swimmers in sequinned suits. "Oh, like Busby Berkley movies."

Aw, I love Sam and Steve both learning from each other and sharing.

I liked the idea of Fitz/Grant when I thought he was a boring good guy (rather than a slightly psychotic bad guy). Clearly, I need to catch up on s4.

I looked. It's totally on me. (And AoS is one of those series that I love while I'm watching -- cheesiness and all -- and then I totally forget about until I start watching the next season's DVD.)
