2020 Friending Meme
Dec. 19th, 2019 04:41 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)

This helped me a lot in early 2017 when Trump had just been elected, and I am hoping we can get the same feeling going again, after the UK election was such a shock.
Connections are important when it feels like the world is getting darker. Fandom is a huge and strong network of people. We don't always get along, but we're stronger together.
Make new friends, reconnect with those who have drifted, enlarge your circle, and know you are not alone.
To play, cut and paste this text into a comment, fill out the details and tell us about yourself. Then go find new people to add.
If you don't have a Dreamwidth account, you can sign up for one here.
If you're new to Dreamwidth and you've left OpenID comments on DW before, you can link your IDs here: How can I claim my OpenID account with my Dreamwidth account?
Play nice.
And feel free to promote wherever you like with this handy box of linkage:
ETA on Sat morning AEST: This text box was functionally busted a few hours ago, so if you grabbed the code then, you might have an image with no link. It's fixed now, with all new alt text for screen readers. If your promo link is just an image, please replace the code with what's in the box now. Thanks for all the posts, btw! Giraffes popping up everywhere.

Date: 2019-12-20 05:16 pm (UTC)Preferred pronouns: Whatever, don't care.
Other platforms (tumblr, twitter, etc): Personal website - Pillowfort
Active/primary interests or fandoms: I don't consider myself in capital-F Fandom, though I sometimes dabble in the edges. I prefer to call myself a creative because that doesn't exclude my original work, which is my primary Thing. In terms of things that could be fandoms, I like Niche and Petz (the original 90s version, not the Ubisoft games). I lean toward curatorial rather than socially minded transformitive, and prefer to enjoy stories for what they are rather than taking them apart.
If you've seen me around, it's probably because: I don't think any of my stuff is known well, but I did make these stories.
I post about: Things I made, stories, etc. Stuff in my head more than stuff in the outside world. While I'm on the subject, here's a note about potentially sensitive stuff I may post regarding social justice topics and mental health that may be upsetting to others.
I post/check my feed: Daily
I want to find people that post about: Other creative people, especially original creators who aren't into publication, creative people outside of typical fandom spaces, people who share my interests in general really.
I am most interested in interacting with people on: DW or Pillowfort. I don't use Twitter, Tumblr etc.
My blog is: Things I created are public, deeper stuff is friends only.
Anything else you need to know about me: I brushed over this in my cautions note, but I spent a long time being abused by social justice related causes and building up massive guilt/shame complexes that haven't yet gone away, so while I'm broadly on the side of ending -isms, I'm skittish around activists and other people who use SJ-related language on a regular basis. Beyond that, I'm pretty sure my purpose in life is to make things and ignore the outside world as much as possible. I don't consider my identity important enough to put on a profile, and I miss when nobody knew you were a dog.

Date: 2019-12-20 05:18 pm (UTC)Preferred pronouns: He/him/his
Other platforms (tumblr, twitter, etc): I'm on twitter and tumbler as gavestonsfrolic. I haven't used tumblr in ages, but I'm on twitter regularly. Not much fannish there, a lot of retweets of political stuff and trans issues. Follow me if you want to.
Active/primary interests or fandoms: I'm very into The Magnus Archives at the moment. And I'm currently revising my first fic in several years, in (of all things) the Cadfael TV fandom. I also have an ongoing interest in fandoms (and history) related to the first and second world wars and in particular the POW experience.
If you've seen me around, it's probably because: Used to write a lot of fic and hoping to get back into it. I have written fic and meta in many, many fandoms.
I post about: Fandom, books/movies/TV that I may or may not be fannish about, some political stuff (I'm a leftist and a gay trans man), some personal stuff.
I post/check my feed: I read DW every day and am trying to post more often.
I want to find people that post about: I'd love to connect with more Magnus Archives fans (though I'm only just starting season 2 and I want to avoid spoilers!), or anyone posting thoughtful fannish or "real world" content.
I am most interested in interacting with people on: DW primarily, although twitter is also fine.
My blog is: Mostly public, with some locked content (mostly very personal things). Once I feel I can trust someone to not be transphobic, fatphobic, and so on I'm pretty willing to give access.
Anything else you need to know about me: To reiterate: I am a gay trans man; don't friend me if you're not okay with that. Fannishly, I tend to seek out queer (especially male/male) content and most of what I write is male/male. I used to be an English professor, so I tend to be more analytical than purely celebratory of anything. My fics are here on AO3.

Other platforms (tumblr, twitter, etc): Tumblr, as CosmicTuesdays
Active/primary interests or fandoms: Buffy and Angel, Star Trek, fandom-as-fandom
If you've seen me around, it's probably because: I wrote that one fic about Jews, neurodiversity, trope reconstruction, or some combination of those three.
I post about: day-to-day observations about weather and clouds, with occasional fandom posts.
I post/check my feed: Daily
I want to find people that post about: moments in their days that they think are worth writing down to remember later, and what they've recently been cooking and baking.
I am most interested in interacting with people on: Dreamwidth
My blog is: selectively public
Anything else you need to know about me: I find character bashing passe. I dig established relationships and problems that both come from and are solved by people talking to each other. I was raised in California by a couple of New Yorkers, and I like to describe myself as being from the hinterlands and easygoing so long as I keep moving.

Date: 2019-12-20 06:42 pm (UTC)Preferred pronouns: I'm not totally comfortable with any of the 3rd-person ones in common use in English; I'll accept any except "it" and deeply appreciate attempts to unobtrusively minimize their use in reference to me.
Other platforms (tumblr, twitter, etc): I have a LJ which I don't use, Facebook I'm trying to use less but am stuck with for work and hobby club obligations, MeWe that's new/trial status and I'm cautiously open to connecting there with people who have good social media boundaries. AO3, same username. DW, obviously.
I am most interested in interacting with people on: DW.
If you've seen me around, it's probably: been in the comments of another DW user with a wider circle, or on LJ back the olden days.
I post about: once a month or less, usually access locked, on topics as varied as fannish meta, personal musing, original poetry or fiction, the diversity of bodies and brains, the development, maintenance, and conceptualization of same; language, science, animals, academia, crafting/art, cooking/baking/recipes, living history, sociology, rants, and other things I'm not thinking of at the moment. I'm much more active in others' comments than my own space, where "much more" is still not a lot.
Active/primary interests or fandoms: Not really super focused on anything at the moment; past fandoms I still have some interest in include: Good Omens (now I've seen the TV series I prefer that to the book); Shetland; dueSouth (my intro to online fandom); Stargate:SG1; Marvel Comics universe (but not Civil War, Age of Ultron, Infinity Game; Star Trek:TOS (my intro to fandom at all, back before internet), AOS, TNG, DS9; Agent Carter...
I want to find people that post about: Any of the things I am interested in or adjacent topics, with an attitude of curiosity and kindness toward differences of perspective on emotionally loaded topics.
Anything else you need to know about me: For purposes of making new internet acquaintances, this is probably most relevant: some of the popular ways social justice and accessibility issues often play out in online/fandom-adjacent spaces really do not work for me and can cumulatively be detrimental. I limit my engagement with practices that don't work for me, so if you're very invested in them as the Right Thing All Decent People Should Be On Board With, or if you need them personally and we can't work out a way to accommodate our competing access needs, we will only hurt each other and should not try to be friends. For representative instance: I use content notes/warnings infrequently and unreliably. I avoid most broadly recognized harmful language but do still use words in ways some consider problematic or painful or merely incorrect --often advisedly as a member of a relevant identity group, and I don't need to be told the way I talk about what affects me is Wrong. Etc. This is kind of a downer to end on, so lemme copypasta some of the above, below.
Oh: I try really hard not to kinkshame or squee-squash and I'll do my best to address or refer to anyone as they prefer. Even if I don't 'get' you or what's important to you, you're valid.
My blog is: Mostly friends (or at least acquaintances)-only, in part because the above.
I check my feed: a few times a week on average. I'm online a lot for day job, largely unplugged at home, so often absent for weekends and holidays.

Other platforms: No, just DW right now
Active/primary interests or fandoms: Star Wars, MCU, Doctor Who, His Dark Materials, Good Omens, Supernatural, classic childrens literature
If you've seen me around, it's probably because: I'm a newbie so you probably haven't
I post about: Every day life combined with whatever shiny new thing I've just gotten all excited about!
I post/check my feed: A couple of times a week
I want to find people that post about: About the things that matter to them, that excite them, that amuse them...
I am most interested in interacting with people on: DW
My blog is: (public, selectively public, friends-only)
Anything else you need to know about me: 2020 is shaping up to be exciting and terrifying - in January I start a new job (my first one!) and move in with my boyfriend!
I'm in my mid 20s, live in the South West UK. I'm white, liberal, cis-female, heteroflexible, pissed off about the current state of politics but I try to keep that pretty low-key here, because I have anxiety issues and it stresses me out if I let myself get focused on it.

Other platforms :
Active/primary interests or fandoms: Have been known to dabble in Star Wars, DC Comics, and Transformers (g1/bay/sg)
If you've seen me around, it's probably because: I write too much
I post about: Writing updates, life, and anything that catches my eye
I post/check my feed: daily
I want to find people that post about: life and fannish interests both
I am most interested in interacting with people on: Dreamwidth is best for conversations. But I'm cool with retweets and reblogs on other spots, and reading them!
My blog is: access locked, but if I am granted access, I give it back
Anything else you need to know about me: Multi-shipper in all the fandoms I touch. OTP is something I seem terribly unfamiliar with, even if some pairings float to the surface more than others.

Other platforms:
Active/primary interests or fandoms: Miraculous Ladybug
If you've seen me around, it's probably because: on DW, because I read a bunch of awesome people and sometimes comment on their things; on Discord, most likely because Yuletide; on Tumblr, because Miraculous Ladybug
I post about: fandom (generally public), my life (generally locked)
I post/check my feed: post daily-ish, check my reading page several times daily
I want to find people that post about: Miraculous Ladybug, writing, queer and/or disabled and/or neurodivergent stuff esp wrt artistic stuff
I am most interested in interacting with people on: Dreamwidth—which probably means I should make sure at least my original Tumblr posts show up on Dreamwidth, shouldn't I…
My blog is: selectively public; I do not automatically subscribe back to new subscribers nor do I expect anyone I subscribe to to subscribe back to me, and I do not immediately grant access to anyone, but I usually grant access to mutual subscribers after a while
Anything else you need to know about me: queer, disabled, neurodivergent. leftist/progressive. recent transplant to the Pacific Northwest. fandom is much better for my mental health than political news. cat photos show up at irregular intervals on my twitter (case in point) and less often on my tumblr. this is Thea with two of her favorite things, high and warm:

Other platforms (tumblr, twitter, etc):
Active/primary interests or fandoms: Star Wars! Friends at the Table (actual play podcast). Various other ones depending on what's coming out/what I'm reading. I also talk about aikido a lot, and tabletop rpgs whenever I get the chance to play them.
If you've seen me around, it's probably because: I'm talking about femslash? I like lurking more than posting, a lot of the time.
I post about: Mostly about my life, oddly. Media I've consumed comes up a fair amount, as does talking about fanfic exchanges.
I post/check my feed: Daily
I want to find people that post about: I like hearing people talk about their lives! I also really enjoy reading what people have to say about media they like, especially queer genre fiction in whatever medium. :) Also, art! I love seeing people post their art, whatever kind of art it is!
I am most interested in interacting with people on: Dreamwidth.
My blog is: Mostly public? I only lock things if it's deeply personal.
Anything else you need to know about me: I'm white, in my mid-20s, queer (butch/nonbinary), have a cat... I never know what to say in this bit, tbh.

Other platforms (tumblr, twitter, etc): live journal, AO3: PaulaMcG
Active/primary interests or fandoms: Harry Potter is my only fandom. But I’m also interested in fandom in general, reading and writing fiction in general, languages (having e.g. translated poetry from Modern Greek into Finnish, decades ago but anyway), learning, education (working as Kindergarten teacher also for children with special needs), theatre (acting in a small community theatre troop), art and activism, mental health problems (due to someone in the family), (left-wing) politics, queer issues...
If you've seen me around, it's probably because: In 2003 – 2010 I published fic – gen and subtle slash – mainly about Remus and Sirius on FictionAlley and live journal, and enjoyed discussing fic (not only mine), composing long comments on fic of various kinds. (This year I'm back, addicted to my fictional universe, and now seeking more interaction.)
I post about: At the moment not much yet on DW – just a bit about writing fic and participating in challenges. But I could write more about fandom and writing in general and about my other interests, in addition to posting all my fic, and even something about real life, in case I get more friends to share it all with.
I post/check my feed: I post now perhaps monthly but check my feed at least once a day.
I want to find people that post about: First of all, people who are still (despite any disappointments) interested in Harry Potter fanfic but also people who share any of my interests and who have wider interests (in fandoms) than I have.
I am most interested in interacting with people on: DW, lj, AO3
My blog is: At the moment public – selectively once or if I start posting about real life
Anything else you need to know about me: I’ve got three adult sons but figured out ten years ago that I’m queer. Or perhaps you didn’t need to know that. Anyway, I love fiction and all art as interaction and as a means to develop our understanding of what it means to be human. I tend to get solemn at times, for instance when defending the active recipient’s right for interpretation and extrapolation.
