My town is beseiged by a flock of corellas, which are a kind of evil, feral parrot. Possibly undead, I don't know. They look undead.

This is a corella, for those of you lucky enough to live somewhere that corellas aren't:
Photobucket

The more I look at it, the more certain I am that it's some kind of zombie-bird.

One corella makes a noise that sounds like "KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!". We have maybe two hundred circling the town at sunrise and sunset. The sunset serenade of KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! x 200 isn't so bad. But KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! x 200 just as the sun is peeping out is eating away at my sanity as surely as if the zombie birds were pecking at my actual brain. Every morning. Even on Sunday, because feral undead parrots respect no day of rest.

So, music memes, hey?

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List upload 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

So, [livejournal.com profile] ion_bond gave me a letter. And I thought that letter was R, but now that I go to check the actual post, I see that it was N. You would think that one would check that before one did the actual uploading, but that would require that one was not such a ninny.

R

Ramalama (Bang Bang)//Róisín Murphy
Oh, the body swayed to music
Oh, the lightning glance

Róisín Murphy is one part of Moloko though this is from her solo album, Ruby Blue, which was mostly quirky electronica/trip-hop, and actually pretty good, too.

Reverence//Faithless
You don't need eyes to see,
You need vision

Faithless are, well, wiki says they're electronica, but really, I think they're kind of what, techno/rap? They are love, anyway. I believe anything Maxi Jazz tells me. I fully believe that God is a DJ. Fortunately, Maxi Jazz is also an ethical lyricist, and never tells me to do anything dangerous like play with electricity. If you don't know them, watch this:
Weapon of Mass Destruction//Faithless.
Sister Bliss kicks the bass drum with her high-heeled boots. *swoon*

Release//george
And I'm ready to release on another day,
I'm ready to respect the day today,
I'm ready to respect myself today,
I'm ready to release

Don't judge george by the annoying use of italics and lowercase. Katie Noonan has a voice that is sublime.

Red Right Hand//Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Take a little walk to the edge of town
Go across the tracks
Where the viaduct looms,
like a bird of doom
As it shifts and cracks

I was going to post an amusing little anecdote about the time we drove through Wangaratta, and we were very impressed, because that was where Nick Cave was from, but it turns out that he's actually from Warracknabeal, which we've also driven through, but did not comment on, because [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil was mad at me for taking a job in the Mallee without actually looking it up first, and did I know it was the hottest part of Victoria? (No, I didn't. And this post is evidence that ten years later, I still haven't learned to look things up first.)

Bonus Nick Cave!
Rye Whiskey//Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Jack of Diamonds, Jack of Diamonds, I know you most of all
You've robbed my poor pockets of silver and gold
And whiskey, you villain, you've been my down-fall
You've cuffed and you've kicked me but I loved you of old

[livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil says that Nick isn't singing lead vocals in this track, but you can hear him in the chorus. I'm not sure, but she has a better ear. (Research by [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil suggests that it's Mick Harvey. Maybe?)

Red Alert//Basement Jaxx
ETA: This link is fixed now! Goes to Basement Jaxx, and not Chemical Brothers.
Red alert! Red alert!
It's a catastrophe,
But don't worry! Don't panic!

This is a handy song for when everything is going to pieces. And Basement Jaxx are loads of fun.

Risingson//Massive Attack
Toy-like people make me boy-like,
Toy-like people make me boy-like,
They're invisible, when the trip it flips,
They get physical, way below my lips

I love the album Mezzanine. In 1998, I listened to it to and from work every day obsessively for weeks. This is Massive Attack, dark and mean.

I don't know why, but these are almost all M4As. Weird, huh? Maybe it's something about the letter R.
