Trekkin' away
Aug. 19th, 2005 01:23 pmI've started recompiling all my Star Trek RPG notes. Oh man, I'm a compulsive note taker, and I need to be, because I have a terrible memory. So I'm sorting through reams of notes, maps, complicated diagrams, and when it all comes down to it, I don't really have a damn clue what's going on. It's coming up on ten years since I first started plotting all of this out, and I've changed a lot, the characters have changed a lot, and Trek has changed a lot. It feels strange to not be up to date with canon. I'm not sure if I can slog through DS9, and I couldn't watch Voyager. And our reception was lousy for Enterprise, so I'm catching up with that on DVD. It's a weird feeling to be so left behind.
I'm working on a big summary, so I can work out how much of my plot was actually relevant, and to try to answer the big question of what is going on.
I don't actually know, not really. It's kind of lame, but I don't.
At the moment I'm working with Romulans, and I can't find my precious copy of The Romulan Way. I think it might be under the bed. *looks nervously at microcosm under the bed*
I'm really glad to find that someone has put Diane Duane's Rihannsu word generator on line:
Rihannsu text generator
It generates a big block of text that I can tweak or take individual words from. This is great, because my made-up Rihannsu sounds like a bad day at the baby-naming factory (Bri'anna-h and Kay'tli'nh). In some cases I'm finding that I have to get meanings for some words and names, so I'm using a random tavern name generator, because it seems to have the right mix of noble beasts and sharp pointy things.
I really love random generators.
This is my favourite alien name generator. It has a good mix of names with x and z in them. So many good friends came from here...
This is what I'm using to name my previously nameless and shadowy Romulans.
I do worry that I might actually be randomly generating plot, and that there is no real story underpinning the game. I hope not.
On the other hand, I did find a random candy generator: Candy! I need Extreme Fudge! Now! And Tangy Worms.
