There's a medical interaction called "The Triple Whammy": ace inhibitor/diuretic/anti-inflammatory. Today I forgot the funky name - I knew was something to do with the number three and triangles and dying. On the spot, I called it "The Pyramid of Death". The customer was suitably impressed with the severity of it. We nodded solemnly together.
A defiant e-book library: [Site redacted: as
kindkit has pointed out, the non-fiction section has books supporting Holocaust denial.] You must promise to delete your books after two weeks, and he'll only lend you five books per fortnight.
(I have been so messed around by commercial ebook sellers that I can totally understand where he's coming from. I wish the industry could sort itself out, because I want to buy their products. But with formatting and DRM and shenanigans, I don't trust them an inch.)
Criminal Minds 5.18
This is the episode that introduces us to the team in the spin-off show, tentatively titled "Minds 2.0". (Seriously, guys? Minds 2.0?)
It's really laboured, isn't it? I do not like being led by the nose and I don't like watching with my cringe reflex engaged. Not when Criminal Minds can do so much better.
Forest Whitaker is all class - I like his character, I like the way he carried that clunky dialogue, and I will probably give the spin-off a chance based on that. Maybe I'll like it better when it is over the pilot blues and far, far away from the parent show.
The plot is kind of obvious and plodding, sadly. I suppose with two teams there isn't much time for the usual red herrings and false turns that make the investigation seem more realistic, but honestly, this is a bit dire.
I don't like the way they paired off with their counterparts from the main team, like a square dance. I do like the sniper dude - is he English, for real? His accent seems kind of wobbly. I hated that the scriptwriters made him flirt with Emily, but I love how Paget Brewster worked those scenes so that Emily could shut him down.
Ugh, that was an uncomfortable hour, like my show died and something crawled inside it and made it walk around. Please be more like yourself next week, Criminal Minds. And Minds 2.0, we'll see what you are when the umbilical cord is properly cut. (I cannot believe this name. Minds 2.0! It's like New Coke, or Cheesybite iSnack 2.0)
It's so busy at work! Who are all these people? I blame the Pyramid of Death.

Date: 2010-04-09 04:35 am (UTC)I personally find myself unwilling to use the site, especially as the site owner (who says he owns all the books made available there) asks for donations.
YMMV, but I thought I'd point this out in case you hadn't noticed.
