FU Firefox 4
Apr. 15th, 2011 11:56 pmFIREFOX 4 IS KIND OF CRAPPY, GUYS. It signs me out of everything randomly. I have to work too hard to get my add-ons to operate. In version 3, you'd right click and select the second option to open a tab without switching to that tab, but in 4, it's the first option. I'm used to right-clicking and opening a bunch of tabs then reading them, but now I keep flip-flopping from tab to tab. These sound like small things, but they add up over the day. I'm so bad at change.
I just had this conversation on IM, which basically sums up my day:
Me: (at work) *sneezes ten times*
lilacsigil: (at home on lunchbreak) Are you sneezing?
Me: *awed* How did you know that?
lilacsigil: Because your antihistamine is sitting on the bench in front of me. You forgot to take it this morning.
Me: Oh. Hang on, gotta sneeze.
It's pretty bad when you rock up late to work, and you're the one with the key to the door. And you live two minutes away in the car. And everyone around you knows this. I need to stop these midnight writing binges. I can't write until two and be at work at nine.
This may be why I have no concentration.
This photoshopped image should make me cranky for various reasons (Like, why can't we have a female Doctor? Why can't we have Doctor who isn't a white guy?) but instead I can't stop looking at it. It gives me a funny feeling in my tummy.

House would make a really fucked-up bad Doctor, and yet I would watch it. Actually, he'd make a pretty good Valeyard. *ponders*
Not long till Who Time! And Game of Thrones this weekend, right? *is excited*
Casestory big bang first draft is due in less than two weeks. I really want to get this done. I have 6.5K, and I'm maybe a third through the story. IDEK.
Things I have had to consider while writing:
Mainly, how much does Audrey functionally know about what happened to Laura? I guess some of this boils down to how I think a small town reacts to a series of really horrible murders. But, having lived in a small one-industry rural town, I can't imagine that Leland's funeral would have been so well attended if it was common knowledge that he molested then murdered his daughter and three other women. I've come to the conclusion that everyone who was with Leland when he made his confession and died made some kind of vow to not release those details.
I mean, surely there wouldn't have been all those casseroles, if they knew? Surely?
The other thing that's causing me problems, since I'm writing future fic, I need to deal with what the hell happened to Dale while he had BOB inside him. NOT VERY GOOD THINGS, I CAN TELL YOU. The problem is that Dale is Twin Peaks fandom's woobie, and I doubt anyone wants to read about him doing BOB-like things.
But he did.
And thirdly, I really want to write about Denise the ATF agent, as played by David Duchovny. Not just because Mulder/Dense makes a shit-ton of sense to me, but because David Duchovny owned that role even though the character was there to be played for laughs. And also because there's a scene in second season where Audrey catches Denise in Dale's room, and finds out that she's an agent and she goes all wide-eyed and says "There are women agents?" And how could Denise not mentor Audrey, after that? They must know each other.
They do lunch.
*checks LJ cuts carefully*
If you haven't ever watched Twin Peaks, I'd recommend it. Or the first season, at least. The X-Files owes a lot of love to Twin Peaks.
Random: awesome animated fanart of Dana running, link brought to you by
newredshoes.
Lastly, casestory big bang is looking for artists:

(sign-up post for artists)
I'm signal-boosting, because X-Files/Twin Peaks is a kind of obscure crossover, and I know I have fans of both friended, and maybe one of you might be interested? Maybe?
ETA: Ugh, cross-posting is doing the dance of fail.

Date: 2011-04-15 11:57 am (UTC)NO YOU CAN'T! (Nina Sharp can, and she is judging you.) (But she probably has a teleporter or something.) (Or makes her robot hand write while she sleeps.)

Date: 2011-04-17 07:24 am (UTC)But Mulder? He definitely calls himself 'Mulder', even inside his own head.
God, am I a bad fan because of this?

Date: 2011-04-15 01:01 pm (UTC)Ugh, it's awful. I'd go back, except that it's the current version now I think, so I'm better off putting in the time to get used to it. I found a link by googling - I would be able to link you to it, except that my bloody delicious wasn't working at the time, grr.

Date: 2011-04-15 01:19 pm (UTC)The Firefox thing with Open in New Tab having moved still/em> keeps catching me out but I've adjusted to the rest of the changes after a few weeks of using it. Fortunately for me, most of the adds-on that I use are still working with the new version and I've learned to get along with password manager which seems to have helped with the being signed out thing.

Date: 2011-04-20 06:19 am (UTC)I am slowly getting the hang of FF4 - I just found 'reload all tabs' command, which is a help. I'll get there.
Are you using a specific password manager? Or just the one that comes with Firefox? I'm thinking of trying one of the add-on password managers, but I worry so about the security of them.

Date: 2011-04-20 06:26 am (UTC)*sighs* It will get there. I just don't think it's anywhere near ready for release, and yet it's already here.
