Last year, my local paperarts club hosted a year long ATC swap, with an alphabet theme. ATCs are small collages, 2.5 by 3.5 inches, the same size as a conventional trading card, except that you make the art yourself. I really enjoyed making the the series, I made seven of each letter, so one hundred and eighty two cards all up, and it was really satisfying to watch my collection grow, month by month. I enjoyed the process so much that I planned out the whole next series for this year, only to discover that the club isn't doing the alphabet this year. I told myself that I'd make the cards anyway, just as though I were in the swap, but that's never going to happen, I just don't have the willpower to do that without an external deadline. I thought if I put my list here, I won't lose it, or forget about it, and if they hold the swap next year (I'm told they may), then I can pull it out and get going again.

Sample cards from the 2005 alphabet

In 2005 I did a mythological alphabet. My next series was going to be a list of astronomical terms, using images from a clip art book of Victorian etchings of women. I'm interested in female scientists of that era, and there were quite a few astronomers. I think it was an extension of a genteel kind of hobby. I have a book published around the 1900s filled with appropriate diversions for young gels, and astronomy is there, along with poultry breeding and hosting a masquerade ball.
I'm using Enchanted Learning as my information source.

A for Asterism, a collection of stars within a constellation
B for Binary Star
C for Corona
D for Direct Motion
E for Eclipse
F for First Light
G for Gibbous Moon
H for Horizon
I for Inertia
J for Jewel Box
K for Kinetic Energy
L for Luminosity
M for Mare Imbrium
N for Nadir
O for Orbital eccentricity
P for Perihelion or maybe for Penumbra, I'm undecided
Q for QUASAR, although I'm not sure how I'll be illustrating that.
R for Runaway Star
S for Scintillation, by which I mean the twinkling of stars
T for Tide, which I believe is also a soap powder in the US
U for Umbra
V for Vector
W for Waxing and Waning
X for Planet X. X was a tricky letter, unlike in the 2005 series, for which I thank the Aztec people.
Y for Year, by which I mean the time it takes for a body to complete one orbit.
Z for Zenith

Now I have to go to a very unpleasant meeting at work, which I may not actually survive.
