It's never, ever okay to say that. Ever.
Aug. 7th, 2007 12:14 pmI just called an old lady on using a racist slur in my shop. Now I feel irrationally guilty about it - she's ninety plus years old, somewhat befuddled, and she probably forgot what we were talking about by the time she reached the front door. But you should never, ever say what she said. I shouldn't feel bad about demanding that people not use racial slurs, apply racial stereotypes, or judge people by their ethnicity.
This little town is insular to the point of xenophobia, and it makes me crazy. But I'm not going to let what she said slide. Even if I have to beat up on little old ladies.
It's the right thing to do, it's the right thing to do, it's the right thing to do.
