Still here! Still paddling!
Dec. 8th, 2019 09:58 pmIt's been a bit since I posted, argh. In that time I have:
- won NaNo
- wrote a werewolf fic for someone who wrote me a werewolf fic in the same exchange.
- made a failure of a pavlova (I forgot how much more water brown sugar holds and that you can't sub it one for one with caster sugar.)
I worked on my Person of Interest fix-it fic for NaNo, and though I didn't get anywhere near the finish, I did get the story moving again. This year's NaNo process gave me all sorts of feelings about how I think I'm becoming less of a pantser and more of a plotter - I really felt the need for the kind of plotting and prepping that I absolutely had not done any of, and I didn't enjoy that seat-of-the-pants feeling of writing day to day to find out what happened. The problem with this is that I don't really know what style of plotting works for me either. I guess I have to try a few things. Still, there's 50k or so added to that story, and that's what matters.
I think the thing that changed me on the plotting/pantsing divide is having posted my first long, chaptered fic. It was seventeen chapters posted over eighteen weeks and I learned a shit-ton about editing on the fly. When it came to actually posting the chapters, each week I found I was a lot less prepared than I thought I was. And I was less happy for actual people to read it than I thought, also. It needed a lot of work. Which I did. And I learned.

In a post somewhere sometime,
ambyr mentioned that it would be great to have another friending meme, so I'm scoping out the possibility of hosting that soonish. The last one I ran (in 2016, omg) went smoothly, and I'd be happy to do it again. Sound like a good idea? Thoughts? Suggestions?
fandom_stocking won't be running this year, apparently, but there's a bunch of other places you can get your gifting spirit on:
-
holiday_wishes
-
in_a_peartree
-
stocking_wishlist
Things to do: I have a bunch of very old linkspam to collate, and I have fic that I need to post here as well as on the archive. And I need to get my yuletide draft together!! At least I've started. At least that.
It's just nice to break the silence, you know? *hugs everyone*
