Closing some tabs
Feb. 24th, 2014 09:51 pmIt is surprisingly exhausting sitting in a chair for two hours talking finance with the bank, but we have pre-approval for the home loan. Next, solicitors for conveyancing, and the building inspector.
Closing some tabs. I've had some of these open for over a month. I guess I can hoard anything, including tabs.
- Warrnambool woman rescued after failed 'gap challenge'. This is what passes for fun in Warrnambool. Apparently you squeeze yourself between two buildings as a dare. And they're really old, cold, bluestone buildings, so if you get stuck, your core temperature can drop dangerously low. Especially if you've been drinking.
- How to make soft-boiled eggs. One of those simple things I just can't seem to get right.
- Archie Panjabi on The Good Wife's Kalinda: 'I can only play her in boots'. (from
umadoshi)
- How to review your novel at a glance. This very much appeals to me - being able to spread the novel out on a table and see all the edits at once. Even if you do have to print it out in 8 point.
- Having Gone Largely Unnoticed In The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Series, It’s Now Impossible To Take Your Eyes Off It. About the detailed and gorgeously lavish costumes in Game of Thrones. The direwolves on Sansa's dress!
- Snopes: Does Disney's The Rescuers have an image of a naked woman hidden in it? (Spoilers: yes, it does.) This seems like a bizarrely elaborate kind of exhibitionism - I can't stop thinking about someone carefully editing the image into the cartoon (which I loved as a kid) and then what? Sitting in theatres, snickering to themselves? It seems kind of pathological.
- 1985 Breckenridge Ski Ballet. Apparently ski ballet was a demonstration sport at the 1988 and 1992 Winter Oympics. I just can't quite convince myself that I'm not watching a spoof.
- DIY Bracelet Loom. School is back and friendship bracelets are immediately the fashion. The kids here are wearing these linked elastic band things that look incredibly painful, and I hope they rediscover the woven kind. I never made them myself, but I always wanted to know how it was done.
- The Naughty Victorian Hand Book. Just. Can't. Stop. Laughing.
- The Entire Star Wars Saga Cross-Stitched By Hand. This is epic and amazing. Fandom and cross-stitch is the best of marriages.
- How to Spot Good Gelato from 15 Feet Away. Could also be titled 'How to give someone painful cravings for iced confections when the nearest gelateria is four hours drive away'. (via
beatrice_otter, I think?)
-
skatingfugly. The worst of the worst figure skating costumes.
-
whatwouldcecilwear (Welcome to Nightvale) This has been cracking me up for days. It all seems so plausible! I found it via this incredible piece of art and the link beneath it.
Time for bed now, yay!

Date: 2014-02-24 10:55 pm (UTC)I KNEW IT.
I grew up within walking distance of Lygon Street, and I've always regarded with glowering suspicion those places with a zillion toppings and foreign objects studding their gelati.
My gold standard for a good gelati place is that they do banana well. And, like the link said, the good banana gelati is grey. Grey or mousey off-white at best. If it's yellow, it'll taste like cough syrup.
