st_aurafina: Shaw's face, caption: you beat the devil's tattoo (POI: Shaw devil's tattoo)

I'm torn on this whole new canon thing for Person of Interest, because on the one hand, we're getting massive plot advancement, but on the other, I really want them to go back to mid-S3, with Finch in the library, Reese and Shaw working numbers, and Root dancing around all of them in her chaotic way. I don't think we're going to get that, and I don't think it would be narratively satisfying if we did, but that part of the show is such a happy place for me. *clings*

5.01: BSOD
- So, they've been on the run for a month? Poor babies!

- I get a little heart-pinch whenever we get flashbacks to Harold and Nathan, and then there's the utterly horrible thing that Finch does to the Machine. She's so scared of dying, and it breaks me.

- Oh, god, when Finch steps onto the jetty and sees the ferry. And he's just kind of frozen, and John doesn't understand, and omg. I just. Am full of feels. Like a Tumblr.

- Bear bringing the fire extinguisher. BEAR.

- SUPER COMPUTER MADE OF PLAYSTATIONS

- Root and Finch freaking out as the Machine overheats, just kind of standing there flabbergasted, while John runs up to street level and finds a tank of liquid nitrogen. John!!

5.02: SNAFU
- That facial recognition thing has been cracking me up for months. (It was the sizzle reel at NYCC - you can see it here.) Michael Emerson does an amazing Root. No, actually they're all amazing.

- I'm so glad that Finch is talking directly with the Machine now. If that's the outcome of having an open system, I'm all for it.

- That moment when the Machine is anchored in real time and Finch asks very nicely if she'll call off the hit on Reese and the Machine says "Paid in advance" very regretfully. And you can see Finch being torn between being horrified and kind of proud. Finch has this expression of "You really are a child of mine." It's beautiful.

- John in a bowling shirt. I just. John in a bowling shirt.

5.03: Truth Be Told
- Kind of relaxing to get a regular Number of the Week episode, actually.

- Time out for a little crossover talk here:
Middlefans, can we just consider that John decides that the best place to meet Iris' parents is The Booty Chest? (Yes, The Booty Chest. The pirate-themed sports bar with the scantily clad waitresses.) Oh, John, you are slutty but sweet.

- Emily Dickinson, waaah. The Machine is perfect and I'm so worried they're going to kill her. So worried. Or, like, merge her with Samaritan to make some kind of baby AI or something. And I will miss her so much.

5.04: 6,741

- I spent the whole time pushed up against the back of the sofa, waiting for Shaw to be dead, and I can't say enough how we don't have trust yet for them to play with the dead lesbian trope. Too soon. It was so hard.

- What an amazing episode. I don't know if it's one I could rewatch over and over, but wow. Sarah Shahi is amazing and I'm gutted that we're not getting her as Nancy Drew. (And I'm gutted that the reason we're not getting is was that it skewed "too female".)

- Root's face when she comes around the corner in the drugstore, and it's Shaw, and her face, and her face. Her face.

- Bear! Slobbery Bear kisses, and his little doggy face, so excited, and omg Bear.

- Still crying tho.

- Love scene! Oh, man, that was a good love scene. Smashing stuff and grappling and then, later, soft face touching and tenderness.

- She killed herself rather than hurt Root. Nearly seven thousand times. I just. I just.

- Whatever happens, I'm so glad we got that post-coital tenderness. That's the thing that's getting Shaw through? I can deal.

Shotseeker
- or as I like to call it, "Soylent Green". Because Samaritan would go there. How wasteful, to put all that organic material into the ground, when it could be nourishing the human meatsacks?

- God, in S1, I would never have guessed that Fusco would be the big-hearted hero of the show, but he totally is. Look at him rallying the forces. Look at him going all out to get his partner back. (Look at him staking that poor kid out for bait, omg.)

- I don't know why Finch is keeping Root away from the Machine? It seems a little petty? But maybe there's a reason.

- I have so little interest in Elias's story. I'm pissed that he's alive, when Dominic, who basically was the same person only black, is dead. And I fucking love Enrico Colantoni, but this was super dodgy. You don't deserve to have Bear sleeping at your feet, dude.

- Oh, man, the tiny ASI cage fight. Adorable and terrifying.

Totally random Person of Interest fic recs:

Does It Lessen Your Affection? by JinkyO (Root/Shaw/the Machine, explicit)
Root with the Machine in her ear, weirdly hot voyeuristic sexy tiems.

Code Indigo by pendrecarc
Gen AU where Finch teams up with Shaw first up, instead of Reese. (It's an older fic, so she's Samantha Shaw, before we knew Sam = Sameen.)

a creature more of night than day by the_ragnarok (Explicit, Harold/John)
AU where Finch is a vampire. I KNOW OKAY, but he wrote a clause in the TOS of his software that grants him entry to houses, which is adorable and so in character. And I appreciate that attention to detail. ([personal profile] lilacsigil, yes, this is the one where he turns into tiny owls.)

Phoenix and the sequel, Halcyon by hedda62 (Explicit, Grace/Harold/John)
Harold has a really stupid idea, which I totally love, because he is so the kind of person to set his two most beloved people up with each other in the event that he's killed or whatever. I really love how Grace is written in this - strong and doing fine without Harold because she's able to look after herself, but so amazingly pissed off when she finds out what's been going on. And so kind to John.

but i'm not the girl you once put your faith in (just someone who looks like me) by violentdaylight (Explicit, Iris/John)
There's not a lot of Iris fic (and I'm always braced for the inevitable hate that a female character gets when she's perceived as the wedge that comes between a juggernaut m/m pairing) but this is Iris POV and it's awesome. (It's tagged as dubcon and d/s elements but that's very, very subtle. If you're not looking for it, or if you don't usually read kink fic, I think it's not going to bother you.)

So, apparently we get three episodes next week? I don't know how to deal. My body is nowhere near ready.
