NaNo Drop In

State of the Nano:
It's week three, I'm eight thousand words in the hole, it's dark, and I'm wearing sunglasses. HIT IT.

Seriously, I had a really shitty start to the month and I've been writing flat out since about the 6th, and I just can't make the difference up. But I'm still trying. Not drowning, waving. So far. Also, it's not the end of the world if I don't make it, right? (RIGHT??)

I was suppose to work on the sequel to the Person of Interest Sentinel/Guide fic, and the POI S5 fixit fic. Instead, shocking nobody, I have started new fics.

NaNo breakdown thus far:
- Person of Interest, Root/Shaw cavalry fic, 2225 words
Inner writer conversation:
Me: What would Shaw call her horse? Should there be some canon reference here?
Shaw: If I had a horse, I'd name it after food.

So Shaw's horse is called Hoggett, and Cole's is Annie because he's a romantic. Also they have sabres.

- Person of Interest, Unexpected Jessica/John pegging fic, 16K
Me: Imma write some pwp in an AU where Jess and John keep seeing each other after he joins the CIA
Also me: *gets really involved in details of AU and has to remind self to put in sexy pegging scenes*

- Fandom redacted, Yuletide fic, 4K
About halfway there, and very much enjoying writng it.

- Person of Interest, John and Grace roadtrip fic that will somehow become a threesome, 11K
Grace is awesome, and I love writing a character who is smart and empathetic and basically normal in the POI universe.

None of those are what I was supposed to write, but never mind. Also, I miss television and crochet and sleep. I need to finish Black Sails. And read all the things.

ETA: Added fandoms in because, as monanotlisa points out, every show has a Jess or a John, it's true.

We don't really know, because it's never happened before. I am a word surplus person, not a word deficit person. I feel weird. Why have all the words gone?

I am bad at pwp! I need to know what's going on all the time. And characters want to just put on harnesses and have at, but I'm all "But why are you here? What's really going on in your life right now?"

Words are good! A positive word count is much better than a negative one, that's for sure.

NaNo is great at encouraging people to write, I have THOUGHT ABOUT IT a lot too!!! I don't think the wordcount is as important as doing some writing every day.

ZOMG, if you're enjoying it now, you have so much to look forwards to -- from this point it just keeps on getting better all the way to the finale. I really wasn't prepared for just how good it got.

I liked season 2 much better than season 1, season 3 better than 2, and then season 4 destroyed me utterly (but in a good way).

She is the best. Carrie Preston(Omg, I just saw she is in Claws, now I have to watch that!) is amazing all by herself but she and ME work just so well together, it makes my heart go bweeeeeeeee. And writing Grace and John is very, very satisfying to the id. They're both so careful with each other.

It sounds like you got a more than solid word count down this month anyway, even if it wasn't for nano. And your "halfway there, and very much enjoying writng it" progress for Yuletide surely sounds better than "finished and uploaded and I hate it with my whole heart", which is where I am.

Where in Black Sails are you? I'm still around 4x03, but I found a great person on my flist to discuss it with who plies me with behind-the-scenes material and Toby Schmitz's fan-art (yes, you read that right, he draws it himself.)

I am at 2.08, so I have the last two of S2 to go. Eeee, I'm kind of torn, I want to go back and watch from 2.01 again to enjoy the build up to finding out about Thomas Hamilton. I didn't trust the show to give us what we saw in XIII - why would I? - and I want to see all the hints.

But also I want to finish and read all the fic and meta. So much.m

Cool. Is that still correct? I can rec you some fic, like my friend did with me, since it's hard to go looking for fic (and there is barely anything from season 2 to find back when it aired).

That's the rub, isn't it? We've been conditioned to expect disappointment, and lack of representation. Why would we ever think this show was different? (It is so awesome, the feeling of getting what we want for once. Just once. (And then all the time! Muahaha!))

I don't usually rewatch things, but the whole first half of the second season is so amazing, I find myself rewatching scenes anyway. I think I watched s1 in too low a quality, and the incredible acting skill of Toby Stephens only got to sink in with s2. I'm still so impressed by him.

The only fic rec I have off the top of my head that will not spoil you for anything is my friend's Thomas/James/Miranda canon divergence fic: "Start Anew": http://archiveofourown.org/works/12336414 . But it has period-typical medical torture and ptsd, so if that bothers you, it may not be for you after all.

Her other Black Sails fic is also good, and pure pwp, definitely less triggering. *g*

I just go through the relationship tags and stop at the airdate of the third season. It's no way to live! ;D

But this show is very spoiler-heavy and for me, it's very important not to be spoiled, so I'll have to get through that.
