Where will it end? I wrote some drabbles using the tarot icons as prompts. Five of them. So that's five hundred of the six hundred words of fic I've ever written. I feel heady. It was fun, though a little nervewracking. [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil was kind and ruthless at the same time, which was very reassuring, and well beyond the call of duty considering she's actually fevered.

I posted them to [livejournal.com profile] xmmff. There's five drabbles, all gen, all 100 words.

The Fool - Marie D'Ancanto

Marie hangs around the bus depot, even though it smells like old socks, and her mother tells her that nice girls don't go there. This is where the adventures begin, she tells herself, where her adventure will begin. Soon.

Charlie at the ticket desk knows her, and saves her the old travel posters. She cuts them up, pastes them onto her map. She doesn't have any one route planned. Just go north, till there's nothing but north all around.

Outside the depot, David pulls up in his brother's pick-up, leans out of the window, so casual.

"Want a ride home?"

The High Priestess - Doctor Jean Grey

The students have the afternoon off. Jean steals into the garden with the Lancet, to sit on the lawn and catch up on professional gossip. (Doctor MacTaggart is stirring up trouble in the letters page; Charles will sulk.)

There are so many living things in a cubic metre of Earth. Jean can't concentrate, the busy minds distract her. Throwing the journal aside, she lies back on the grass.

Hundreds of living things are suddenly in shadow, because she chose to lie here, because Charles cancelled class, because of her whim.

Light and shadow, life and death, are all around her.

The Emperor - Scott Summers

Two days after Alkali Lake, the house is in disarray. Nobody cooks, because the kitchen is full of glass and bullet casings. The dormitories are abandoned for sleeping bags on the library floor. Sleep is futile, Scott avoids it.

Six days after Alkali Lake, Scott finally gets a chance to look over the jet. The electrical systems are dead, burnt out. He can't decide if they're worth repairing.

Nine days after Alkali Lake, Scott still finds glass fragments in the carpet.
As the scaffolding goes up against the damaged walls, he wonders if it wouldn't be better to walk away.

The Devil - Pyro

John doesn't know why Erik gave him the journal. It creeps him out.

"It's like he's gonna sneak into my room and read it." he complains to Toad.

"Nah, gave us all one, right?" Toad squints into a pipe, "Says we're writing history."

John's sneer masks panic; could this place get any weirder? "You? Write history?"

Toad winks and drops his jaw; the tongue flies upwards, and retracts bearing a book, swollen with damp. John gingerly takes the book, and flicks through. On every page, in ink, Storm poses suggestively.

Toad grins. "History? Nah. But I reckon it'll be educational."

The Moon - Jason Stryker

Jason likes to visit with people, but his father doesn't approve.

get yourself together, boy! or i’ll find someone to fix you right up

Jason isn't really listening. The neighbours are fighting again, and this time it's ugly.

The professor can visit with people too, and he tells Jason that there are rules. For the first time, it's easy to listen. The words don't pile up in his head.

"People don't like your visits, Jason. It makes them scared."

Jason tries not to visit, but it's hard. Sometimes he forgets.

"It takes practice," says the professor, "It will take time."

Also, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] mctabby's Harry Potter drabble-a-thon. It scares me a little. I could have to write anything.
