This helped me a lot in early 2017 when Trump had just been elected, and I am hoping we can get the same feeling going again, after the UK election was such a shock.

Connections are important when it feels like the world is getting darker. Fandom is a huge and strong network of people. We don't always get along, but we're stronger together.

Make new friends, reconnect with those who have drifted, enlarge your circle, and know you are not alone.

That sounds wonderful! I probably will need the encouragement. I can't promise a lot about the cooking. My family has started teasing me about being a lazy cook. I like eating so much more than cooking; but sometimes I guess I have to do the latter if I want to enjoy the former...

biology nonfiction interest
I haven't been keeping up with this the past few years, so I want to catch up on it again. I learned about Ernst Mayr's work in biology class, but I don't think I ever actually read any of his writing! Your comment spurred me to go check the library, and it turned out my local branch had one of his books. I'm excited about being able to read it over the holidays.

I hope you enjoy his work. I started reading him in the 1990s and his fundamental work in building a cohesive philosophy of biology was a big inspiration for me, even though I left biology as a degree and completed in statistics.

But, yes. I know a lot of people prefer Stephen Jay Gould for evolutionary discourse because of his colloquial style of writing, but I fell immediately for Ernst Mayr.
