Nearly done spammin'
Jan. 2nd, 2007 04:19 pmSo,
yuletide reveals are up, and I've posted my two stories here. (My fic tag now goes over one page! Woo hoo! I'm so not prolific...)
I wrote a Hellblazer fic for
kindkit, and found that John Constantine is quite easy going to write, as long as you let him kick the crap out of stuff along the way. When I was waffling around doing vague research for the fic, I chose Lanciano as the setting, mostly because it was in the Abruzzo region (my dad's family come from there, I have vague memories of it being very old and very sparse), it was up a mountain, and it had a prominent hospital, all things I knew I needed for the fic. Further into my research, I was surprised to learn that Lanciano is also famous for having the world's creepiest religious artefact; a communion wafer that turned into human heart tissue during Holy Mass twelve hundred years ago. And they analysed it in the seventies, like with microscopes and stuff. The Church claims the tissue is the same blood type as tissue taken from the shroud of Turin, although they don't say anything about the recent carbon testing that showed the shroud to have been created some time in the middle ages. Anyway, it was all very mysterious and Hellblazer-y, and made for wonderful inspiration.
The other fic I wrote was a last minute stocking stuffer for
__marcelo, based on a request for Aeon Flux, the movie. This was a really strange and beautiful movie that I only saw this year, having avoided it because of bad reviews. The reviews give a very inaccurate view of the film - it's a strange, ethereal creation, very sparse and futuristic, with oddly mythological themes. So, I was really glad to have the chance to write some fic for it.
The story that I received; Nightclub Jitters, a beautiful insight into Hedge, the bassist in Emma Bull's War for the Oaks, was written for me by
heuradys. Thank you so much for this wonderful story, Heuradys! We've never come across each other, as far as I know, but it's great to know that there's someone out there who enjoyed that book enough to write about it so lovingly.
All in all, Yuletide was awesome. Thank you to
elynross and
astolat for making all that awesomeness for us to enjoy.
*sits among the scattered wrapping paper, feeling a bit like it's all over now*
