Our cat was hit by a car today. He was killed, I don't think he knew what happened.
[livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil put it nicely, he was sweet but simple.

There are some things that I don't want to forget about him. It's a soppy and sentimental list, but otherwise I will forget, and I don't want to.
On sunny days, like today, he sat on the lid of the big green wheelie bin to watch the world.
He was tiny, but well-formed, with long black stockings, and slender legs.
He had a nervous tic in his tail that made it twitch like a scorpion.
When he was stressed, he would chew his sister's whiskers. She let him. His own whiskers were long and drooping, quite magnificent.
His favourite toys were the plastic rings that come from the lids of the milk bottles. He batted them into the air, chewed them into submission, then dropped them into his kibble dish.
After his sister had brought us a dead bird, he observed our delight (screams and running around) then brought us a big wet leaf.
He was rarely allowed on the top platform of the scratching post, but when he managed to get there, he was well pleased with himself.
Once he caught a mouse, and brought it to the glass door. We ignored him, hoping he would go away. He cut his losses, and swallowed the mouse whole. He wasn't a large cat, either.
When I held him in my arms like a baby, he would press his feet on my chin.
He liked to climb to high places, but never planned his descent. We saw him walking backwards along the rail at the top of the sliding door more than once.
He was born on Halloween eve, six years ago. The house is quiet without him.
