st_aurafina: Rainbow DNA (NaNo 2007)
Dammit, I'm going to post this, even though I'm dizzy and vague. I've obviously reached the word total required for reality to flip around, so that my novel-world seems like the real world, and the real world seems imaginary. That could be the cold medications, though.

I'm muddling around in chapter four at the moment, with a weird floating bit of text that I really like, but hasn't fitted anywhere yet. I'm pleased that so far I seem to be fitting my story into a three act structure - Act One closed off with a crisis, according to the masterplan. This is weirdly accidental, and I only realised when I was reading back and summarising for my plot-table. I do have a plan, but it's hard to see that when I'm actually doing the writing. It's standing on a life-sized map, and wondering why I can't see things like the pattern of the coastline or the mountain range. The pacing of story telling on this scale is still hard to grasp, I feel like events are scooting past faster than I want them too, then I realise that I really need to go back a few paragraphs and embellish like crazy.

It's weird how I've developed a rhythm for writing, and how much better I'm getting at translating my jumbled plans into something coherent. I'm really glad that [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil and I are doing NaNo, though I'm astounded at how hard it is to actually make the daily word count, and how tough people who write for a living must be. Most amazing is the way I've settled in to writing about 2,000 on a work night, as well as getting up early to squeeze a few more words out before work. I'm amazed, and at the same time a bit embarrassed at what a precious little sooky I was before I had this enormous deadline, huffing and puffing and hair tossing for days or even weeks to get a 1000+ challenge fic done. Never again! (This may, in fact, be a lie.)

OMG, Zokutou has colours and stuff! And it generates the code for you, so you don't have to fiddle with the HTML.

Also, this year, I may choke a tourist. I don't understand the mentality that tells what I presume is a perfectly normal person at home that they can turn into a rude and stupid arsehole when they're on holiday. Geez.
