Date: 2013-09-08 01:34 pm (UTC)I used to cheer myself up from US politics by thinking that at least places like Australia and the UK were better. Can't do that so much anymore.

Date: 2013-09-08 03:03 pm (UTC)(Although this is what happened in the US. Our liberals have migrated to such a centralist position, that we now have progressives to distinguish "liberals" from liberals.)

Date: 2013-09-08 03:06 pm (UTC)Questions re the Palmer Party.
Date: 2013-09-08 03:25 pm (UTC)Did the PUP have people handing out how-to-votes at every single polling place?
Did Clive Palmer really employ people to hand out how-to-votes? I have heard this but now wonder was it true?
Did he ask employees to do this, and did they feel pressured to engage in political activity at the boss's behest?
Where did all the PUP candidates spring from? Were any of them employees?
Did paying people (if he did) to hand out how-to-votes result in a marked difference at the small (ie probably unstaffed by the bigger parties) booths? (This might show up as a rural vote, since many rural polling places are small.)
And yes, happiness has been difficult this weekend. Small positive point: the NoCarbonTax(etc)Party seem to have got nowhere.

Date: 2013-09-08 11:29 pm (UTC)I must admit I side-eye female Liberal voters quite a lot. Then again, I side-eye Liberal voters full stop. There's been a lot of post-hiding on Facebook this weekend, that's for sure.

Date: 2013-09-09 01:04 am (UTC)At Wattle Glen, the first LNP volunteer was a guy, maybe late 20s, and I have no idea about his racial background except that he may have been Indian, like the candidate he was supporting (Jag Chugha). He disappeared at 1.30 saying he'd be back in ten minutes and still hadn't come back by the time his replacement rocked up at 3.30 (which I and the ALP volunteer found quite amusing). Said replacement was male, at least fifty, and looked a bit like an evil Santa, so we had a bit of a demographic variation.
