I must shamefully admit that we're taking our decrepit old sofa which has had farty old cats on it for fifteen years and is, in fact, a little sulfurous. Kurt would have been much cooler though.

Now that my personal library is back down to two and a half bookcases, I occasionally LOVE reordering them. When I was at 6 and a half, not so much.

The local hospital just opened up a goodwill store, so they're really pleased with us. But even after a good winnow, there's still so much!

We got rid of a lot of books - there was a level of overlap in the sci-fi field. We had three copies of Spock's World between.

As a hypothetical, I asked my spouse if we had to move now, how many boxes of books he thought we'd pack up.

His answer: 200.

This is why we will never move.

And that doesn't count the offsite storage unit.

The lifting wasn't too bad because we have a trolley to cart heavy things around, but yeah. Lucky the renovations took four months, because it took that long to cart the books, four boxes at a time.

Don't ever move. If this wasn't such a tiny place, I don't think we'd be moving either.

I'm currently packing "things I don't need every day" in case I get a transfer. So far, I've cleared out 3 bookcases and half my hall closet, along with the numerous boxes in the walk-in closet. I'd feel triumphant, if it weren't for the 9 boxes of books already packed, the remaining 2 bookcases, the rest of the hall closet, and the stuff in the car. And this assumes I'll be able to resist hitting the thrift stores and using that amazon gift card I got for Christmas!

I do understand your dilemma. Books are wonderful, until you have to move, and then it's all wth was I thinking?!

Getting ready early is a really good idea. I think you'll have a better move because of that. And we put a total veto on books or anything for the kitchen, until we're into the new place. It's been hard!!

I don't know why I needed two copies of the Chronicles of Narnia, to be honest. But now they're in the new house and I don't have to worry about it until the next move.

I'm really annoyed at how many duplicate copies of things I've found. I don't need one copy of the Southern Living 1993 cookbook, much less THREE. I used to keep all my books, cds, and movies listed in my computer and would print out the list before I went shopping, so as not to duplicate things. That organized ship sailed and sunk decades ago.

I'm running into the problem of where to put stuff I have packed. I've only got a small studio so it's like a Rubik's cube in here. I may have to check out storage rental prices.

I'm glad you're getting all settled in. Well worth the temporary chaos. I'm envious of your kitchen and your bookcases!

Heh, I somewhat despair at the thought of ever having to move again because I'm in a similar situation in regards to the sheer amount of books I own. And I've been sorting through them, hahaha. How do people do austere living? ^_~ But, yay, you got all of them taken care of (and can always go through them again later)! ^_^
