1. GREAT BRITISH BAKE-OFF IS BACK

My life is made whole again. And wow, 9 million viewers for the first episode, yay.

2. Captain America NaNo rewrite is in the middle of a Howard POV bit, a WWII flashback. I really like this fic. I like writing it, and I like editing it, and I need to hurry up so I can get to my favourite bits. And I need to get it posted before it gets jossed by a third MCU movie. (This fic has JARVIS in it, and old Agents of SHIELD before shit went down, and apparently there's a scene with 80's Peggy Carter in Ant Man and she doesn't have the steel bob I imagined her with in this fic so i probably need to check this out.)

3. weelittlestitches put out an X-Files pattern.

4. Whale season! At our local beach, we've had Southern Right whales, porpoises, dolphins, and seals. And a pod of orca - I didn't know we even had orca down here. There's seals lazing outside the surf lifesaving club right now.

5. Madame Masque Will Face Off Against Agent Carter in Show’s Second Season.

Kind of excited that they're doing a Madame Masque storyline? I love that they're going for a Hedy Lamarr screen siren/scientific genius thing, anyway, because that is a true thing that is awesome.

It was shot in Warrnambool, and it mostly seems to be fart jokes and it looks so amazingly cliched and bad. But Warrnambool is all WE'RE IN A MOVIE COME TOURISTS COME LEAVE YOUR LOVELY TOURIST DOLLARS HERE! I don't know. There are Maremma dogs guarding the penguins, that's true. I'm just all cringe-amazed by the trailer. It's so Strayan. Onya, mate.

Bake Off! I couldn't believe how many viewers it had gotten when I read about it in the paper yesterday... it was a lot.

Who are your favourites so far? (Or is it too early to tell?)

Oh, it was so great to see it back on telly again - Bake Off time is a great time.

Ooh, it's so hard to pick favourites this early - I like Dorret and I'm glad she didn't go home, and tiny Flora, and Nadiya, but I like all the ladies so far. And Other Paul - I loved all his quiet death glares at Paul Hollywood (which were probably just nerves, but in my head, it's gladiatorial!)

I'm not too sure about Tamal because I've never met an anaesthetist who wasn't an utter bastard, but I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt until he actually does something evil. I didn't click with Stu at all - there always seems to be one hipster dude who can't actually cook that well but thinks he really can.

Oh, I love it! Who knows how the cards will fall this year? Anything could happen.

I totally agree about Dorret and Flora (so young! and she's really good!) and Nadiya. I also really like Marie, because her baking is sort of old-fashioned and she's not trying to be cheffy about it.

I do know. Today is very much a no verbalization day for me, so I am trying HARD to make sure I will communicate online at least.

Because of this post I just watched my first ever episode of The Great British Bake-Off, and I blame you entirely for the fact that I'm now hooked. I never watched it before because I was afraid it would focus too much on the contestants' personalities and not enough on the baking, but it's not like that at all, luckily. (And then of course I did start to get interested in the contestants as people and ended up having very strong feelings about some of them. I'm quite pleased about who was sent home this round and who wasn't.)

It's a pretty well balance reality show, all up. Mel and Sue are great hosts, Mary and Paul are a good judging team, and it's one of those shows where the contestants all help each other out which always contributes to a good atmosphere. If you're hunting up earlier seasons, there are also Comic Relief Bake Offs where celebrities do the baking. (It's not as good as actual Bake Off, but it gets us through the dry period between seasons.)

Yeah, I'm glad that person went, too. Every year, there's always this one hipster who thinks they can bake but they're actually a wanker.

I wonder if the hipster inclusion is so that there's one contestant who can get thrown off to everyone's satisfaction? If it had been literally any of the other contestants I'd have felt bad for them, losing the first round. But not Hipster.
