100words Prompt #44, Home.
Summary: When Samaritan is gone, the library is waiting.
Also at the Archive
When Samaritan is no longer a threat, they creep back to the library.
John goes first, clearing rooms so the others can follow. Harold frowns at the broken terminals, then busies himself sorting books.
Root moves gingerly, with a cane; she's not supposed to be walking yet, but she insists. Shaw hovers all morning, ready to catch her. She's only distracted when John finds a hidden cache of grenades.
Bear supervises everyone, until he, too, finds hidden treasure: a rawhide bone Decima deemed garbage. He settles in the middle of the room and chews contentedly. It's good to be home.

Date: 2017-06-01 02:57 am (UTC)I got sold on the show with "there's canon f/f and Action Women and a growing AI, you have to sit through the first procedural seasons" and T and I wound up loving both -- Carter! Fusco! but the Machine's awakening just really stole my heart. How can some lines of type on a monitor be so expressive? (well, cross between Michael Emerson and Amy Acker interpreting it, I know)

Date: 2017-06-01 03:57 am (UTC)I mean, like, I get they want to give us (and probably them) some kind of closure, but especially with POI, which took so much care with the foreshadowing and continuity and reusing characters from earlier episodes, I would have been okay with solid storytelling and a cliffhanger. There were years of plot in those few episodes. If Root and Shaw had had some time together, if we'd seen what their relationship developed into, I'd even say that what happened to Root fit the narrative but as it happened, it felt too much like the traditional TV lesbian punishment for being happy.
I think because I'm in a constant state of rewatch that I can see all those long, careful arcs of plot being laid down, and it makes me really sad that S5 was a bowl of spaghetti. With occasional delicious meatballs, if I can over-extend my terrible metaphor.
Mmm, meatballs.
