Camp NaNo starts in a week and a day - I'm thinking of running a cabin. Would anyone be interested? (and by 'running a cabin' I mean, I'll get it started, and I'll probably throw some sprints in the little chat box they give you, but other than that, I make no promises on content.)
I read something somewhere about not using asterixes to separate paragraphs because screen readers read them aloud as 'asterix asterix asterix'. (I'm trying to find the link, but I can't!! Argh!) A better way, apparently, is to use [hr] (only with < and >), so I'm giving that a try. It makes a line! There may be a little overuse as I get the hang of when and where I want to use it.
Heh.
Recs
I missed Reccing Thursday this week, but these are so good:
- White Flag by
runawaynun (Vid, The Expanse, Teen)
The women of The Expanse. SO GOOD. (Quite violent? Show level violent, which is quite violent.) Spoilers for S3 presumably but I haven't seen S3 yet and I live to tell the tale.
- A Bullet is a Kiss by
tristesses, (James Bond/MCU, Bond/Natasha, Explicit)
It's tagged 'sexy spy shenanigans' but it's got lots of feelings, too. The kind of spy story where they pick out bullets and suture their own wounds before they get down to the sexy stuff.
- 1,023 Days on Earth by
cosmic_llin, (ST: TNG, Guinan, Gen)
Don't you love it when you come across a fic and comment on it, only to discover you've commented on it already? This is an older fic but so good: a prequel to Time's Arrow, with Guinan finding her way to independence.
- Gator-Proof Fence by
burglebezzlement, (The Good Place, Jason, Gen)
Just an amazing Jason voice in this fic, as well as the way that Jason gets everything wrong and right at the same time.
- in the interests of intragalactic cooperation by anonymous (Original, General)
Alix Campbell is not particularly pleased to be on the list of staff for Earth's very first appearance at the Galactic Council.

sunshine_challenge is gearing up for July. It's the (northern hemisphere) summer version of the
snowflake_challenge.
The
sunshine_challenge is about celebrating fandom itself and the awesome people in it. One way we can do that is by interacting with each other. Every time you visit the journal of a fellow participant and comment on what they're sharing, you are helping to create this community. Fandom is about love: love of books and writers, movies and actors, music and musicians, comics and their creators, etc., but it's also about being with and appreciating other fans, and letting them know they matter. We all could use a little sunshine in our lives. ♥

Starts off referencing period costumes in film, but actually is a huge collection of historical resources, on lots of things.
- Good Omens Prompt Meme
I haven't talked much about Good Omens (I haven't finished the series yet because SO. MANY. FEELINGS.) This might be useful to people who need it now, though.
- Also possibly of interest, Good Omens Discord servers
Is it weird that I keep reading this as 'good Good Omens Discord servers'? (Disclaimer: I don't actually know if they are good.)

rydra_wong, Secret Rivers - Discover the secrets of London's historic waterways at our new major exhibition - now open.
If you're in the UK and you're a Rivers of London fan, this might be of interest. I am not in the UK and it is of interest, bleh
- Very brief, and you've probably seen it already, but: Picard Trailer.
Also, Michael Chabon is showrunner for the Picard series, apparently? That's going to be interesting and maybe awesome: ‘Star Trek’: Michael Chabon’s Won a Pulitzer, But Writing For Capt. Picard Turned Him Into a Fanboy
(This is a terrible title, but the article is interesting. I didn't realise he wrote the Discovery short, Calypso. That actually makes a lot of sense.)
- Government officials in Pakistan forget to turn off cat filter during Facebook Live press conference
I keep having to do a reality check on myself to make sure this really happened. (I'm mostly on a news embargo for my mental health right now, but this one snuck through, because kitty ears.)

spikedluv, Rosamund Pike to Star in Amazon's Wheel of Time Series Adaptation
I'm not a Wheel of Time fan, but I'll watch the hell out of this. And you know, any epic fantasy series that a network chooses to stripmine as the next Game of Thrones, so I can have beautiful people on my screen doing ~fantasy things. I am shallow as fuck and I'm not ashamed.

Date: 2019-06-23 11:45 am (UTC)The cabin is just a meeting point where you can input your word count and see how everyone else is going. There's a little text-based chat thing, but it's fairly primitive and laid back.
I'll let you know when the cabin is up and you can make a decision!

I'll try to stop doing that in fic, then. (I'm pretty sure you can put "width=50%" or whatever value you like, if you want it to not be such an emphatic break. *tests*
Yep.)
That Jason fic was adorable! <3

The bad thing about Wheel of Time is that the relationships were so boring. They were telegraphed and neatly paired off from the start, and ugh. I did love the magic and the worldbuilding, though. That might be interesting to see as a tv show, indeed.

Yeah, I didn't find it very engaging? I know people are passionate about it, so I don't want to harsh their squee but it really didn't work for me. Then again, adapting for TV often means the work gets a good edit, and maybe that will change the way the story unfolds? Either way, I'm sure it will be pretty.

Date: 2019-06-24 06:06 pm (UTC)If I don't use chapters, I've always signaled breaks in time with more white space which is no help whatsoever to people reading fic on a Kindle as it compresses it. So, lines it is. :D
