This helped me a lot in early 2017 when Trump had just been elected, and I am hoping we can get the same feeling going again, after the UK election was such a shock.

Connections are important when it feels like the world is getting darker. Fandom is a huge and strong network of people. We don't always get along, but we're stronger together.

Make new friends, reconnect with those who have drifted, enlarge your circle, and know you are not alone.

Hi! Our likes don't seem to overlap much, but I saw your wish for comms and I can oblige with that at least, so here goes:

For finding events, comms & so on:

rainbowfic (you pick out prompt sets to fill and post to the comm - it's quiet, but quietly active if you know what I mean!)

Other general fannish things that might be useful:

historium (since you say you like history, esp. Ancient Rome - it's just a big clearing house for all historical fandoms, started by me (that's the obligatory disclaimer), with a masterlist of known other historically-fannish comms here. You can join in & post stuff there, or use it as a base to find the people who might like to make a more specific history-era comm that would be more your thing, whatever!)

fic_rush (monthly event where we have writing weekends with hourly posts and cheer each other on)
icons & fandom_icons (because 100x100 pixels are one of the pleasures of LJ/DW. Should you want any you should be able to find plenty there.)

As for icon comms, icontalking is a really great central place, where you can chat about icons, textures and iconmaking generally and promote things, plus it has regularly updated lists of active icon challenge comms on Dreamwidth.

I enjoy iconthat and iconcolors, too, and there's also nexticon, but check the list at icontalking, really.
