st_aurafina: (Baggins was hatched!)

I have the first stage surgery for my dental implant on Monday. I'm not freaking out, because (a) Midazolam! and (b) it can't possibly be worse than having four wisdom teeth hacked out of my jaw. And even that wasn't so bad thanks to (a). I am worried, after all, they're drilling a metal bolt into my jaw. Giant drill. My jawbone. Yuck. But I think I've been through worse, and it should all be okay. I bought a pumpkin, so I can make soup for my tender, incised gums. There's something very satisfying and homely about having an entire pumpkin in one's pantry, even if I didn't grow it and harvest it myself.

This winter we promised we'd buy a coat for Baggins, because his fur is fine and felty, and he really seems to feel the cold, huddling on the heat pad all day with hunched up shoulders.

This is Baggins, he likes to hide behind the laptop and bat at one's fingers:
Boo!

He's a big boy, and we had to venture into dog sizes to find one that would be long enough. The first one, size small, was too small. He was really uncomfortable in it, especially the straps under his back legs. It's also that nasty crispy acrylic, and honestly, he generates enough static electricity on his own.
Get it off me! Non-natural fibres burn!

The second coat was a medium, had no straps and he seems to really like wearing it. We were prepared to abandon the coat if he seemed at all distressed by it, but he stood still, let us put it on, walked around a little awkwardly, then seemed to be comfortable. When we took it off him, he dragged it into his bed and slept on it.
I is smart AND stylish

The next day he was very happy to have it put on, and ran around and played and had a nap. It doesn't fit very tightly, he could shrug out of it if he was really unhappy. And we don't leave him unsupervised while he's wearing it. I'm all with the justifying, I think it's hangover guilt from my misguided childhood, when it was so amusing to dress the cat up in doll's clothes. (I feel really bad about that, Marmalade, and for that thing with the doll's house. I know you're long dead (of an unrelated issue), but I'm glad to finally say that.)
Kissing!
He's so much warmer and seems to be less anxious and fluffed up, so I think we've done a good thing.

Here's Chewie who wanted in on the photo action. He doesn't need a coat, he grew his own, and it's much thicker and warmer than Bags'.
O HAI I CAN HAS PICSHUR NOW PLZ?

I love our cat family.
