We got one of these tiny barcode scanners to help with uploading books onto our LibraryThing. It's awesome, and not just because it's shaped like a pouncing cat. I've added a pile of graphic novels, and some incredibly dusty sci-fi paper backs, and it's awesome fun, and now our LibraryThing is growing in leaps and bounds.

Also, I am very nostalgic for those early sci-fi reading days. My copy of Clan of the Cave Bear still falls open at the naughty bits. And why didn't it annoy me, the first few times that I read the Belgariad, the way that Polgara has all this almighty power, and yet prefers to make her own soap? And when Paul wore a stillsuit for the first time in Dune, was he startled by all the attachments for bodily functions, or do spunky space Princes just know about that kind of thing? My copy of Dune has Kyle MacLachlan on it.

So many of my paperbacks don't have barcodes on them. It's very funny. I remember saving my dollars and buying them at market stalls and Opportunity shops. *sigh* Teenage me was waiting for Amazon to be born, and I didn't even know it.
