A minute ago I was up to my knuckles in delicious greasy meat, stripping lamb shanks of their flesh for a Persian lamb stew that's been cooking for four hours now. It has cinnamon in it, and lemon juice, and roasted tomatoes, and chickpeas, and turmeric (my hands were yellow from it!), and it smells amazing. AMAZING! And there's something gruesomely satisfying about tearing flesh from bones. The only problem is that the biggest pot we own is too small. We need some kind of giant stewing dish, because we're going to cook this again, and we need to be prepared.

I love our local butchers. They look after us well, they buy from local suppliers, and they have a giant poly-resin bull's head on the front of their shop.

Dima Bilan is singing for Russia again! The guy who had the ballet dancer emerge from the innards of his grand piano! I can't believe how awesome that is. I CAN'T WAIT FOR EUROVISION!

Here's a photo of Dima, to separate this factlet from the Doctor Who spoiler below. See the chick coming out of the piano? That was possibly the most awesome moment in Eurovision TV history, since, since, I don't even know. Since Buck's Fizz did that dance.

4.01: Partners in Crime

I was ready to hate this episode - I have this thing about women called Donna who like to shout, and though I enjoyed The Runaway Bride, Donna wasn't my favourite part. And then this episode was about fat, a triggery topic for me, and I was filled with fear after Voyage of the Damned showed us that RTD thinks fat people are funny AND stupid. But actually, Partners in Crime was good. It was funny. And Donna was smart and resourceful, and not in love with the Doctor. I didn't realise how much I had been dreading Donna's return, until I found myself really enjoying this episode.

And creepy!Rose? I like it! I'm pretty sure she's going to be evil. I can handle evil Rose.

Last thoughts - is the second episode of every season of New Who set in the past? Last season, we had The Shakespeare Code, and in Season 2 it was Tooth and Claw, and in the first season, we had The Unquiet Dead. (Well, that was actually the third episode, but they had nearly two decades of catching up and re-establishment, so I guess that gives them a bit of leeway.)

We just put the stew into bowls. It was very splashy, and the stovetop is a nightmare, but it looks amazing. I can't wait to eat it. (This will be tomorrow night.)
