(Also, then lilacsigil won't get mad that I'm writing this entry instead of catching up on my NaNo word debt so that we can watch more Jessica Jones tonight. Because we mutually pledged that we wouldn't watch it unless we make our daily word count. And now I'm behind.)

In other news, JESSICA JONES OMG. I would be home watching it right now if it wasn't NaNo, and if we didn't have to buy groceries and go to work and have visitors and seriously what is it with November? This always happens.

November has been surprisingly social - we met up with vass which was lovely, we went to a NaNo write-in for our closest region (which isn't all that close, but a bunch of them trucked up to meet us halfway, which was lovely of them.) Socialising is hard work but it's reassuring to know that I can actually do it with reasonable competence. (Reasonable competence being I didn't faceplant into my food, and I could say more than five words in a row. My personal standards are low.)

Omg, JESSICA JONES. It is everything to me, and I've only watched two episodes so far. But wow. And Luke Cage. And wow. And so many women. And I am re-reading the comics (because I have so much free time, right?)

In conclusion, please send good vibes to lilacsigil so I don't get in trouble.

I keep hearing stuff about Jessica Jones. Tell me why I should watch it. I'm getting curious now.

Jessica is a PI in a post-superhero MCU, the same universe as Daredevil. She runs her own business, has emotional baggage she's trying her hardest not to deal with, she's got superpowers herself but doesn't use them until people piss her off, and she's got mad chemistry with Luke Cage who is dealing with similar issues keeping his superpowers under wraps. Fantastic female secondary cast: her best friend Trish, her former boss and lawyer played by Carrie-Ann Moss.

It has a fantastic noir detective feel, the look of it is very informed by David Mack who did the (gorgeous, gorgeous) covers for the comics. Here are the opening credits

That's why I'm watching it - I loved the comics and I'm delighted that it's made a beautiful and satisfying transition to TV. But it's dark, I'd say it's pretty much triggery for anyone dealing with PTSD or sexual assault. Not as bone-crunching as Daredevil, but definitely dealing with some dark storylines. David Tennant plays the villain and he's basically amazing and horrifying. (As he should be - this villain is terrifying.)

Krysten Ritter is a fantastic Jessica - I wouldn't have picked her, she looks nothing like my headcanon Jessica, but wow, she is amazing. Oh, wow - she just lifted Jessica off the page and made me love her more.

Oooh, those opening credits are very atmospheric.

The level of violence in Daredevil was a bit much for me, tbh, so a little darkness without the gore would probably be better.

But that is a very good description. I'm going to keep an eye out for the show.

at knitting group I dropped in on yesterday I was all "o you are looking for a new TV show? well have you heard the good news about JESSICA JONES."

(though I did also rec Dark Matter and Foyle's War yes <3 )

this is one of the only shows where I have shrieked at the television and flailed my arms. I am not sure if I am just becoming less inhibited and am not holding those feelz in as much, or if this show just pulls them out of me.

Ooh, I also am doing a bunch of short stories for NaNo! It seems to have broken down like:

15,000 words of M/m origfic
4000 words of Goblin Emperor smut (no, really)
19,000 words of F/f origfic
and the remainder (2k-ish), more origfic, F/m this time.

Seem to be more or less keeping up with the target wordcount, but I must say I wrote less when mainlining Jessica Jones. (WHICH IS AWESOME. YES IT IS.)
