This helped me a lot in early 2017 when Trump had just been elected, and I am hoping we can get the same feeling going again, after the UK election was such a shock.

Connections are important when it feels like the world is getting darker. Fandom is a huge and strong network of people. We don't always get along, but we're stronger together.

Make new friends, reconnect with those who have drifted, enlarge your circle, and know you are not alone.

To play, cut and paste this text into a comment, fill out the details and tell us about yourself. Then go find new people to add.

If you don't have a Dreamwidth account, you can sign up for one here.
If you're new to Dreamwidth and you've left OpenID comments on DW before, you can link your IDs here: How can I claim my OpenID account with my Dreamwidth account?

Play nice.

And feel free to promote wherever you like with this handy box of linkage:

Also genderqueer, and interested in interacting with other genderqueer people.

Tired of seeing stuff by "white folks" narrating the lives of people who don't look or behave like them. I prefer an unfiltered view, and don't have enough of it.

Yeah, I have issues with pronouns, too. Someone else's idea of who they think you are, or should be. Better they should talk with me and find out.

Like you, I also came late to understanding I'm not straight.

I suspect there are more of us out there than we let on -- probably because it conflicts with the default narrative of figuring it out early. And being able to survive the discomfort of acting straight until all of a sudden we can't. Does any of that ring a bell?

Yes, you must be right. In my case, however, somehow… well, the show just goes on and people hardly notice that I’ve stopped acting. I’ve simply got divorced, but I’ve got the (now adult) children and I hardly dare hope to find a new partner because I’m (homoromantic) asexual.

Well, I haven't ruled Wellington out yet, let's say, though funds are very tight at the moment. It'll be annoying if I can't go, considering it'll be cheaper than any other Worldcon I've been to except Melbourne! I've got the long service leave available from work, everything, except *money*!

But hopefully.
You're in North America; is that right? I've always enjoyed visiting America :-) Happy to subscribe to you and we'll see how we go.

Hope the first part of the year is financially kind enough to you that you feel you can afford the trip. It's the fans that make Worldcon what it is, and I always root for more local fans to find ways to get there.

Wondering where you've gotten to and what you saw while you were there.

I'm actively seeking out non-US voices to gain other perspectives. And also bi, although it's not likely to ever show.

I especially like people who are queer-friendly without being queer themselves, and wish there were more of them. And am also sensitive about who gets what information about me, and have been for a long time.

Actively seeking a worldwide reading list for better perspective. And on the ace spectrum myself (demi, and slow to form the required emotional connections).

I can't tell from your blog, but I would definitely find your perspective as a gaijin worthwhile if it showed up. "Queer-friendly" is another plus (genderqueer nonbinary here).

Another genderqueer person here. Demiromantic myself, which wound up hiding any biromantic tendencies. There are a couple of possibly worthwhile relationships I may have missed because of that.

Meta and analytic is good; I love picking things apart to see how they work (or not). Bi is good too; I'm much more interested in who someone is than what their crotch looks like.

Okay! I poked around on your journal, but couldn't tell a few things. Where are you based? What's your background or interest in Japan?

Gaijin designation, and its importance, is one of the things I find a little draining about living here. (I was clearly an outsider when I lived in Vietnam and Korea too, but my otherness wasn't a defining feature of national identity.)

I'm interested in trans and nonbinary issues, and am currently trying to get better with neopronouns.
