I'm pretty sure I'm not going to delete my LJ. I don't know for sure. I'm still considering and waiting to see what happens. (For people who haven't heard, LJ now has a compulsory agreement statement, which requires users to comply with Russian law. It's deeply problematic, both politically and legally.)

Things I will immediately do:
- upgrade the rating on my LJ, because mentioning anything queer is considered unsuitable for viewing by children.
- do a friends cut, if I have you friended both here and on LJ, to reduce the amount of traffic on my LJ flist.
- re-import my LJ to my DW, so that I've backed up comments left over there.
- make an archive DW for comicstore_news, and my few fic journals.

Things I might do:
- shut down commenting at my LJ. (I don't want to - I have friends over there who don't use DW, and I like to hear from them.)
- stop cross-posting altogether. (I like having a back-up of my posts, even if I don't use LJ that often these days.)

OK, so that's pretty much "We're not responsible for data breaches," but it also means that if someone hacks my LJ and posts anti-Russia stuff, they can hold me responsible.


Things you can do

A way to post comments without agreeing to the TOS. You'll still need to click the agreement to do stuff like import or delete your LJ, but it's a way to get to the comment box at least.
ETA: Apparently today there was some kind of code tweak and this isn't working for everyone.

On the whole, as always, I love the way community has rallied to provide information, analysis and support. I hope I don't have to delete. I respect people who have, and I empathise with people who have decided to stay. I just don't know what I want to do yet.

Also, this, which pretty much sums up why this is stressful and depressing: But I'm angry, and I'm exhausted with being angry at LJ over and over again, angry in ways that hurt because of how formative the site was for me and how much I loved it once. Yeah, I know how melodramatic it is to say "that was my home, and I don't live there anymore, but it's been slowly and inexorably vandalized and trashed", but hey, that's how I feel.

State of cat:
BAGGINS IS A FREE ELF! He's off sub-q fluids, he's got, as far as vets could tell while he was fully perfused, good renal function and low CK, and seems fit to make a full recovery from the snake bite. We are very lucky. So very lucky. Now we need to build him up and get him well, but he's doing a lot of that work himself, as cats do (MOSTLY BY JUMPING ON THE KITCHEN BENCH TO LOOK FOR HUMAN FOOD GRRR.) We think we found the site of the original bite - back right leg - because the skin got pink and raw there, but it's healing up. And as the vets said he would, he's doing his own physio, working on those damaged muscles in his wheel and playing with his brother. He's the best of cats. Champion of cats. Most cat of cats. <3


State of me:
Prednisolone is a beast, and it's slowly frying my brain, so I'm currently resorting to pink wine in the early afternoon. I'm not at work or anything, so I feel like that's a valid decision.

My concentration window has been appalling so I've barely read any Yuletide, beyond my wonderful gift fics, which has been sad-making because I love the process of reading and reccing and commenting. I'm hopeful that as the pred dose drops, my ability to get my eyes to stick to the screen will improve. I've got a doctor's appointment upcoming where we can review the rate of decrease and make some kind of long term plan. In the meantime, I'm average four-five hours of sleep a night, getting up at 5:30 with a weird unfocused mania that has me running around the house ~doing things and ~making plans. And crochet. Crochet is a life-saver at the moment. I still have knees, though right knee is making a whispered reappearance on the pain scale, possibly because I'm doing as much movement while I still can.

State of Livejournal:
I'm lucky/sheltered/Australian enough not to feel too threatened by the move of servers to Russia, so I'm not going to delete or stop cross-posting at the moment. I've got a permanent account over there, so I won't be giving them more money in the future, and basically Dreamwidth has been my homebase for a long time now, so I'm going to sit tight and see what changes. If you guys want to defriend over there, though, go for it. I totally understand, and I want people to feel safe.

Gmail threading of comments on Dreamwidth - zvi suggests using a subject in your comment to help with threading as a short term fix until this bug gets sorted out. I like this kind of lateral thinking. Of course, I've left dozen of comments without actually doing this. Because I'm forgetful. But from now on, I will do this.

denise has a plan to allow us to import our LJ reading list into DW. This will be amazing when it comes to pass.

dw_community_promo is so much fun to watch - I adore the diversity of comms that are opening up over her. The first two that came up on my reading list this morning are permaculture, and sonnets. We're such an eclectic bunch.

I was thinking that I might make a feed for comicstore_news? It can't be that hard to create a feed, and Dreamwidth is making me all adventurous, like.
