Shipoween!

Hey there, Shipoween author!

I ticked all the boxes in the sign-up form because I wasn't sure how to indicate that I don't mind if there's a theme or not. I don't mind! I like spooky things, I like seasonal things. And bonus southern hemisphere goodness: it's spring here! Let me give you a free pass to other, non-regulation seasonal tropes like hayfever and mild sunburn.

General likes: Plot, competence, sexy times, light kink or D/s dynamics. Characters having quiet moments. Visible queer presences, gender fluidity, people comfortable with their identities and living their best lives. Happy endings. Alternate universes of the non-mundane kind.

Horror likes: Spooky much more than gory, creepypasta, paranormal weirdness, people living normal lives with their weirdnesses, abilities like psychometry or talking to ghosts or lycanthropy, dimensional shifts, Lovecraftian monsters oozing into this dimension, Ouija boards and professional psychics, exorcisms, cryptozoology.

Seasonal likes: I'm taking this to mean tropey stuff like huddling for warmth or sharing umbrellas or dealing with wet dogs or raking up fallen leaves? I'm good with that. I'm good with all the tropey domestic goodness, to be honest, though being an Aussie, I have only peripheral experience with Halloween, and my knowledge of Thanksgiving extends only as far as popular media. Also, it's spring here, so if you want to write your faves dealing with hayfever or marvelling over new leaves on trees and blossom, please feel free.

Prefer not to see (but can take it if the story goes that way): Embarrassment, angst, sad endings, character death.

Concrete DNWs: Teacher/Student, cross-gen, pregnancy, animal suffering, body horror, partner death and grieving.

Fandoms: X-Files/Mindhunter, Hellblazer/The Exorcist, Person of Interest, The Exorcist,  )

Here's my Dear Author tag on my Dreamwidth with all my letters: Dear Author. My partner is [personal profile] lilacsigil / [tumblr.com profile] laraleftlane and she's willing to answer questions if you need them.

Thanks for writing! I hope you have a great Shipoween.

I have survived dental things, and eaten sausage rolls as a reward. I feel pretty good about that. Cut for dental things - nothing too gruesome )

The renovations drag on. Oh, but look! We had shelves built for the library: Shelves and shelves and shelves! )

So, Outlander the series - yes/no? Is it good? I was never into the books, but I was hugely into the Lord John Grey books, so I kept picking up Outlander and putting it down again. I'm pretty sure that John isn't going to be in this, but the gifs look pretty on Tumblr. I feel like the Outlander books (like Game of Thrones) is a source that a TV treatment will work really well for. (In the sense that to me, they needed a big edit.) Also, somewhat cruelly, I am hoping that there will be a great wash of fanfic, just because of the way that Diana Gabaldon shot her mouth off about it. And because it was fanfic that brought me to her books. (If anyone is interested, it was this POTC crossover by [livejournal.com profile] penknife: Trade - NC-17, Captain Jack/Lord John Grey.)

I watched the leaked pilot of Constantine, and I've got mixed feelings on that. Mixed feelings and some paranoia - Wow, I've got a lot of cuts in this post. )

I think I'm done with cuts for now.

Harry gritted his teeth as the stitches in his back pulled, but resolutely kept moving at a steady pace through the park. )

Title: Silk Cut Souvenir
Fandom: Hellblazer (comic)
Characters: John Constantine, Chas Chandler
Rating: PG for strong language and acts of sacrilege
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] kindkit in the Yuletide 2006 exchange

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil and [livejournal.com profile] elynross for beta reading.

The title comes from the song "Heavy Heart" by You Am I.

Those familiar with Hellblazer will know that John Constantine has a less than respectful attitude towards the Church and this is reflected in this fic. If this is likely to upset you, please don't read.

st_aurafina: Rainbow DNA (Ianto OMG!)
This weekend [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil and I gave our creativity a kick in the pants. We made up our own drabble prompt table with words randomly picked using dice and a dictionary, and matched them up randomly with characters from many fandoms, some that we know well, and others that we wish we wrote more for. There are twenty words and twenty characters shared between the two of us. I feel rebooted.

So ten ficlets in a range of fandoms. Spoiler warnings for: Veronica Mars S3, Supernatural S2, American Gods and Torchwood. Nothing rated over PG.

Blindness - Low Key Lyesmith (American Gods) )

Foxglove - Joyce Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) )

Hybrid - John Constantine (Hellblazer) )

Island - Henry McCoy (X-Men) )

Iron - Matthew Murdock (Daredevil) )

Saturn - Ellen Harvelle (Supernatural) )

Rising - Ianto Jones (Torchwood) )

Stretch - Keith Mars (Veronica Mars) )

Unite - Miranda Zero (Global Frequency) )

Marry – Padmé Naberrie (Star Wars) )
