st_aurafina: close up of Kira, from DS9 (Star Trek: DS9 Kira)
Our personal trainers were all "Yay! It's all cardio day!" And while at the time I was super buzzed with endorphins, and super amazed at all the wonderful things I could do on my knee (I walked some reasonable distances! I stepped up, if not down!) I'm rather regretting everything now.

Then there was physio.

Trigger warning for a brief discussion of fat acceptance versus healthcare )

Anyway. Closing some tabs.

Deep Space Nine fanart by [personal profile] softestbullet: 1940's Kira Nerys. This is fantastic! Kira is so fierce, I might die of it. *hearts*

From this post on ONTD: If Famous Writers Had Written Twilight:

Twilight, by Dr. Seuss

Jake likes a girl. Her name is Bella.
Bella likes a different fella.

See this vamp? This is Ed.
Ed is pale. Ed is dead.

Ed saved Bella from a van.
Ed must be a special man.

Ed won't kill boys. He won't kill girls.
Ed gets fed on deer and squirrels.

This is James. He's a tracker.
He's a sort of vamp attacker.

James hunts Bella for a thrill.
Will Ed kill him? Yes, he will.

But James gave her a little bite.
Will she be a vamp? She might!

Edward fixes Bella's cut.
She won't be a vampire.
But...

She becomes one. Read some more.
She's a vampire in book 4.

(I love this most of all for the fact that it rhymes "girls" and "squirrels". Lol your funny accents, USians!)

Oh, man, I have to post a pic of this stupid sticker, off a packet of screen cleaner wipes:
Photobucket
[Image: Round sticker showing a finger approaching a small puckered aperture. It's a warning sticker, with a red circle and slash.]

It took me five seconds to actually do what this sticker warned me not to do. Five seconds. While I was laughing at the sticker. I couldn't get the plastic opening off my finger. I had to scream out for help, because it was cutting off the circulation to my finger. [personal profile] lilacsigil had to bend the prongs back so I could... pull my finger out. It was a headdesk moment of monumental proportions.

Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] dolorous_ett! You are not dolorous in the least, and I hope you have a good day.

I survived the dentist - I think (hope!) most of my anxiety was because I was seeing a new dentist, and you never know how the new guy is going to deal with the fact that I cry uncontrollably in the chair. He was brilliant, though, the nurse had pretty obviously prepped him, and every time he moved or picked up an instrument, he explained very calmly what he was doing. This was very reassuring. I'll need three fillings in upcoming months - this is not so reassuring. There were more things - discussions about how much tooth will be left and whether I will need a crown and there's a new kind of night guard for my TMJ, but I don't remember much of that conversation. The nurse told [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil, and she made the appointments and so on, while I wandered in little circles. [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil was an awesome caretaker and ferried petrified zombie!me around, and bought me a sausage roll and a packet of mince tarts at the bakers afterwards. I don't have much patience with my own phobia. My brain, doing stuff all by itself with nobody at the wheel. I don't like it.

But Twilight? Twilight was brilliant fun!

Spoilery squee-age after the cut. )

[livejournal.com profile] wizefics's Holiday Recathon has started! Firefly recs are up!. Go and fangirl the authors, and [livejournal.com profile] wizefics for putting it all together.

Tomorrow is Twilight Day! I'm terribly excited, but dentist phobia is creeping up on me already. I'm fairly sure all my teeth are rotten, and there will be pliers. And I don't think R.Pattz is going to save me. Bastard.

I can't tell if it's PMT or the game, but Spore is making me very, very angry right now. At first I was laughing at having to make friends with the Spode Empire (Hey guys, I hear you make excellent porcelain!), but now it's just getting too aggressive. I want to have the happy, fluffy, non-invasion kind of space game. Why can't we all just get along, and enjoy terraforming and abducting less-civilised species?

Wow, you guys are so busy in LJ world, I can barely keep up with my flist. Every time I skip 20, I find myself looking at the same page, because there's been 20 posts in the time it took me to read 20 posts.

My Yuletide fic is done and betaed once. Now I'm looking for a fandom-specific beta which is proving a little problematic. But the fic is done and I think it's not going to need huge plot shifts or anything. And on the plus side, my search for a beta made me brave the #yuletide IRC chat room, which was a much less scary process than I thought it would be. It didn't net me a beta, but it was a positive experience.

And I still can't let go of NaNo. Now that I'm free of the time limit, I'm cheerfully writing the great and epic love story of Edgar (gay Edwardian accountant) and Louis (hopeful gold prospecter from Canton, angry about his vampire existence). It is great and epic. And look at this: yet another story from our local paper, about a Warrnambool man killed in WWI, whose father sailed from Canton in the 1850s to prospect for gold. Same time, same place as Louis! I did my research, and so far, it's holding up. I really like the way it all slots together.

We're going to see Twilight on Monday. It's our only window of opportunity before school breaks up, and we have hordes of teenagers to contend with. We had this problem with the Harry Potter films - their release almost always coincided with a lot of teachers scratching their heads and wondering what they can do for the last week of school, and deciding that going to the movies is a good and relevant thing. I'm quite excited. I want to read reviews without fear of spoilers. [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil has been happily spoilered, and sits next to me chortling and chuckling while she reads reviews, and I'm jealous. But I will keep my mind pure and unspoiled. Like Edward. And my enjoyment will completely overwhelm the fear I have of the looming dental appointment the next day. Yes. It will.

This reminds me of a thing I saw while cruising around Twilight comms:

Hey, Sorry to be a post hog but how do you guys say Carlisle?
I think its Car-lizle...- I know its wierd but that's just how it turned out when I read it.
And my friend said it was Carl-ise so the second L was silent...

In our house, Carlisle (who is my favourite character) is forever known as Car-lizle. It's so badass.

*sighs* This post is brought to you largely by PMT-related lack of concentration.
st_aurafina: (Writing - strange fruit)
So, I read Twilight. My sister is into it, and I want to support her fannish interests, and also I was just curious.

On the one hand... (I think I'm going to need more than two hands for this) )
